I found a zoo on my seventh day

I woke up feeling excited. Today is going to be a good day.

The three of us walk downstairs. Sting immediately starts glowing light blue, and I can sense an orc on the other end of the level. Beside me is a beautiful creature, almost identical to the one I saw on the fountains. She has a slight blue tint to her skin, and her hair has a streak of pure white. I’m guessing she’s from the mountains.

Fritz is already on the offensive, and bites her. The nymph pretends to be friendly toward him, and smiles seductively. He’s having none of that though, and Aurora joins in the fun by biting her. I don’t want my pets to have all the fun, so I stab her with Sting. I start to worry about how this looks. The three of us have this poor lady trapped in a corner, where we take turns striking out at her. She shows her true colours when she steals my amulet and vanishes. It looks like I’ll be using my new spell.

I close my eyes and cast the spell. Oh my Anhur. There’s a huge room full of monsters. I don’t even recognize them all. I just wanted my amulet back, how am I going to survive this. How will my poor pets survive?

I debate going back upstairs, and exploring the mines instead. No, we can do this. I set out determinedly.

I make it to an empty room without incident. I give a sigh of relief, then get hit with a blast of frost. It bounces off the wall and hits me again. One of my potions freezes, and explodes.

“Mother F…” I start to say, sending a blast magic in the direct the frost came from. I see a wolf cub bound into the room. It has pale blue fur, and tiny icicles hang from it’s fur. I blast it again, but miss. It keeps coming. I keep up my attack. I don’t care if this leaves me completely drained, I am going to destroy this thing.

I finally manage to kill it as Aurora and Fritz waltz into the room. I jump on the corpse before they can steal it from me. I need my food. I start to eat when another blast of frost interrupts my meal. I should have known. I saw three of them when I cast my spell. I had been hoping that they were sleeping though.

With a sigh I started blasting this one. I can’t keep this up for much longer. At one point I hear the sound of a seal barking. I keep up my attacks, and it soon dies without any more frost. Two down, one to go. I decide to try and finish my meal.

I’m inturrupted again, this time by an ape. Aurora is between us, so I can’t even use my magic to deal with it. I wait, and the ape walks around her. Another ape walks in, and goes around her in the other direction. I now have two large apes within striking distance.

I blast one ape, and it falls to the floor. Fritz and Aurora take care of the other one. They each feast on a corpse, and I decide to try eating mine for a third time.

I finish eating it just as a third ape walks into the room. I don’t have the strength to use magic, so I start slashing at it with Sting. I’m not doing much damage, and it swings it’s strong arm at me. I’m fairly wounded by the time my pets decide to join the fight, and by the time I deliver the killing blow I’m all but ready to fall over. Aurora jumps on the corpse and starts eating. What a little pig.

I manage to rest up a bit before going on. I find an empty room, and slowly make my way toward the room of monsters. Better get this over with.

A wolf stands at the door. I still don’t have enough energy to use magic, and I don’t want to risk waking anything up, so we trade blows. Me waving Sting around, the wolf clamping it’s strong jaws around my arm or leg. Aurora Fritz comes up beside me and tries to help out. We almost have it. The wolf turned around, ready to flee, and we killed it.

Behind the wolf, an elf mummy was walking back and forth. One of my people, or it used to be. I wasn’t sure how strong it would be, and decided a strategic retreat was in order.

I head back to the last empty room I saw, and wait for me is the stupid mountain nymph that started all this. I’m about to blast her when something makes me reconsider. Instead I take a stab at her while Fritz tries to help out. The nymph vanishes again, and the elf mummy wanders in through the open door.

I try to blast it, but it resists. Looks like I’ll have to use my trusty dagger for this one too. It’s bandage wrapped hands soften the blow, but it still hurts. I’m getting close to death again, and wonder if Anhur would be pleased with me this time. I don’t think it’s been long enough. I back out the door and leave my pets to fight for me, while I cast the protection spell I had learned. The air around me begins to shimmer with a golden haze. It’s not much, but I’ll take anything I can get at this point.

My pets seem to be ignoring the mummy, and soon it’s standing beside me again. I take a breath and start hitting it again. I don’t know how, but somehow I manage to survive the fight, and send that creature back to the grave.

I pick up the mummy wrapping it leaves behind. I try to wrap it around myself, but it refuses to cooperate. I take off my cloak and try again. This time it easily flows around me, wrapping me up in a solid cocoon. I try to put my cloak on, but it doesn’t fit. With a sigh I take off the wrapping, and put my cloak back on. I decide to keep the wrapping though. You never know what will come in handy down the road.

I realize that by now I’m pretty skilled with using a dagger. I feel I could be more dangerous. I give myself some time to heal before I head back to the room of creatures. When I get there, the last of the winter wolves is waiting for me at the door. I walked up to it and a strange voice in the air spoke out.

“Welcome to David’s Treasure Zoo.”

I was a bit confused at first, but try to focus on the wolf. I trade blows with it, still not wanting to let loose a stream of magic into a room full of sleeping creatures. It finally dies, and the room starts to come alive.

I hastily retreat again, while Aurora stays behind. I wish I could help her, but I see an elf mummy coming straight for me. Knowing that she won’t be any help with this fight, I draw the mummy off, leaving an escape route open in case Aurora needs it.

Fritz is occupied with his own fight. I lend a helping hand, and the two of us go off to see what trouble Aurora has gotten into.

When I step into the room, I notice that she’s managed to kill a few of the creatures. I still don’t know what they were, but they aren’t there anymore. There’s still an ape, a fungus, some ooze, and a rock mole. I decide that the ape is the immediate danger, and start fighting it.

It quickly dies, and while Fritz eats the remains, I go after the mole. It has massive fangs, and sharp claws. It is strong enough to tunnel through the rock walls, and I start to wonder if I made a mistake. It’s not very strong though, and I manage to kill it. I take out the ooze from a distance using magic, and turn my attention to the fungus.

Fritz bites the fungus, and suddenly gets very cold. I decide not to risk touching it, and blast it with the last of my power. Thankfully it only takes one hit before it dies.

I look around the room, there is gold everywhere and a staircase going down. I run down the stairs while my pets are busy picking up gold, and putting it down somewhere else. There’s nothing of immediate interest, so I return upstairs. Time to find that bloody nymph.

I cast the spell, and see a handful of creatures on the other side of the level. I sigh loudly. This isn’t going to be easy.

I come across a hobgoblin, and only then do I realize Sting is glowing. I wipe off the blood coating the blade and can now clearly see the blue glow. The hobgoblin drinks a potion, and it’s body vanishes. I can still sense it there, so I go in for the kill. It doesn’t take long, and leaves me a nice pile of loot. I grab the darts, a copper ring, and three food rations. This thing was hoarding food. Who would have thought.

I’m slightly burdened by the load, but I’m not leaving good food behind.

I finally make it to unexplored territory. I walk into a new room, and get surprised by a vampire bat. I try to hit it with Sting, but the bugger is fast. And I’m slowed by carrying so much. It bites me five or six times between my feeble stabs and swipes. Finally out of desperation, I blast it and it falls to the ground. Remembering regular bat corpses, I leave this one alone as well.

I’m hurt, so I turn around to rest in a safe area. I see a lizard along the way, and kill it. It leaves a corpse behind and I eat it before I remember that I should take it with me. I suddenly feel strong and tough. My pack feels lighter. Sweet. I feel better about fighting that nymph now that I’m not slowed down.

I go to the last room I saw the nymph. I slaughter a few more lizards along the way. Aurora eats one of them, and I toss the other one in my pack. When we finally get there, only a friendly green elf is in the room.

He looks like me, except with a slight green tint to his skin. I’m not quite sure what sets him apart from other elves. He’s not from the forest, maybe a swamp? I try to ask him, but he just curses orcs.

There’s a fountain in the room with him, and another set of stairs going up. The stairs confuse me, and I feel a slight dread at the thought of them. I’m going to have to talk to Spoiler about this before I venture up them.

I keep searching for the nymph. I find her a few times, and she steals some potions, my spell book. I can’t wait to kill her.

I encounter some rothes, a rope golem almost chokes me to death, and I once when I cast the spell I see a floating eye on the other side of a wall. I blast the wall, it was a hidden door and shatters. The floating eye dies, and I step forward to eat it.

Shit. A trap door opens and I fall down. I don’t even know how far. My pets are gone, the nymph is gone, and I have no clue how to get back. It’s time for a nap, I’ll deal with this shit tomorrow. That nymph though, it’s going down.
