I had a quick nap when I got to the bottom of the stairs. I didn’t even bother looking around, I needed sleep. When I woke up I still felt sick and weak from my fight with the kitten.
Suddenly, I notice a garter snake. It was hiding under a scroll. Aurora bites it, and it tries to bite her but misses. I walk over and slice it’s head off with my dagger. I walk over to a potion on the floor, and discover another snake hiding behind it. I quickly take care of this one as well.
This time, it left a corpse. I stepped over to it and heard a loud click. A massive boulder came hurtling towards me. It knocked me down and rolled over my legs. I screamed in pain.
Once it was gone, I fell on the snake corpse with a hungry fury. After my meal I grabbed the fizzy potion, and put it beside the stolen bubbly potion. I carefully walked around the boulder, then zapped it with magic so it couldn’t hurt anybody else.
I noticed another small piece of metal in the pile of rocks it left behind. When I touched it, I saw another vision. That’s what I’m going to call these weird moments. Visions. Anyway, I saw one where a human wizard was hit by the boulder, but this one didn’t survive the encounter.
I picked up the scroll the first snake had been hiding under, then continued searching the room. I found a magic marker, and an unknown spellbook. By the time I had collected all my spoils I was staggering under the weight. I decided to unload some of my useless weapons and armour. I dropped the extra helmet I had, the boomerang, and a pile of arrows.
Once I was sure I could handle the weight, I turned my attention to the book. I gently stroked the magenta cover, and decided to try reading it. I was thoroughly engrossed by my studies, and when I had finished I knew the spell for protection. It’s a rather easy spell, and I’m confident I can cast it without any problems.
I decide to crawl up the stairs to give my legs some time to heal before I start going off into the unknown rooms on this floor.
I make it upstairs with no trouble, and start to rest. Before long, a large kobold comes around the corner, surprising me. I manage to hit him with my dagger before he can react, but I’m not strong enough to fight him. I fire off a bolt of magic and watch as he collapses into a heap on the ground. Aurora ignores his corpse, so I decide to follow her lead again, and leave it in peace.
I continue resting, and my legs finally have some feeling in them. Off in the distance I hear the chime of a cash register, and somebody complaining about shoplifters.
I finally feel back to normal, and descend once again. I start exploring this new area, and suddenly I feel tougher.
I continue my exploration, easily killing some monsters along the way. A kobold zombie and newt meet their end. I find a few secret passages, and empty rooms.
Eventually I find another dead end. I search until I open up a secret passage, and there’s a swarm of demons waiting for me. They are small little red things, with glistening black claws and horns. I’m about to turn tail and run, but I see Aurora behind me. I don’t want to leave her alone with these hideous things.
I flex my fingers, and wait until one of them steps in front of me. I strike at it quickly with my weapon, and it vanishes in a puff of smoke. That was easy. I quickly dispatch the rest of the group one at a time.
A lone iguana is left behind. I get into a long battle with it, trading strike for strike. It doesn’t hurt me too badly, and I am confident I will win this standoff. That is, until I start to feel hungry.
I keep up my onslaught, and finally win the battle. Unfortunately the only thing it leaves behind is an unknown scroll.
I keep looking around, and luckily I find a food ration. This is great. I won’t spoil, and now I won’t die of starvation. I decide to keep it for an emergency, I would rather eat what I can kill.
I find a secret door, and when I open it I am faced with a snarling little husky puppy. Remembering my encounter with the kitten, I am immediately nervous. With a sigh of regret I toss my only food ration to the little guy.
He devours the ration. His eyes stop glowing red, and turn into a soft blue. He runs over and licks my hand.
“Feeling better?” I ask him.
He yips in response. I decide to name him Fritz.
I continue looking around, and hear somebody counting money. I find the stairs down, and manage to sneak down them without Fritz or Aurora following me.
A gnome lord is waiting in the room when I make it to the bottom, and I quickly turn around and go back up. I will deal with him later.
Back upstairs I find another clear potion, and get burdened by it. I go through my pack looking for things I can do without. I leave the leash behind, I haven’t used it and don’t see any use for it. I almost drop my horn, but life without music isn’t worth living, so I decide to keep it with me. I finally give up, and decide I will just have to live the extra weight.
I find another kitten, but don’t have any food I can give it, so I’m forced to fight it. This time I blast it right away. By now I’m weak with hunger.
I come across a large eye, floating in the air. It slowly turns in place, until it’s looking directly at me. I can feel a power radiating from it, and blast it with magic without thinking. The magic hits the eye, and nothing seems to happen. I try again, and this time the eye falls to the ground, before evaporating. Again I feel more experienced. I feel a good deal healthier, and my magic power is even stronger.
I take a quick look in the room it had been guarding. Empty. I turn around and Aurora is in the middle of fighting off a giant bat. It’s twice the size of the last bat we encountered. I blast it with magic to end the fight before my pet can get hurt. She runs over and eats the remains before I can get to them. How rude. Here I am, weak with hunger, and she just helps herself to my meal.
I explore a bit more, and then faint from hunger. In a last ditch hope, I close my eyes and send up a prayer to Anhur. I’m surrounded by a shimmering light. I feel like Anhur is well pleased with me. My stomach settles down, and feels content. It appears that prayer is a powerful thing down here, but I get a distinct impression that the Gods don’t like being bothered too often, or for minor things. I was not a zealot when it came to prayer, so I don’t think I will have trouble keeping myself from praying in the future.
There isn’t much left for me to discover on this floor, so I make my way back to the stairs. It takes a while for Aurora and Fritz to come find me, but they eventually make their way over. I remember the monster waiting for us downstairs, and decide to have a nap up here before we go on.
