Preparations

It is written in the Book of Anhur:

After the Creation, the cruel God Moloch rebelled against the authority of Marduk the Creator.
Moloch stole from Marduk the most powerful of all the artifacts of the Gods, the Amulet of Yendor, and he hid it in the dark cavities of Gehennom, the Under World, where he now lurks, and bides his time.

My God Anhur seeks to possess the Amulet, and with it to gain deserved ascendance over the other Gods.

I, a newly trained Evoker, have been heralded from birth as the instrument of Anhur. I am destined to recover the Amulet for my deity, or die in the attempt. My hour of destiny has come.

My journey begins on the first of November. My entire village is just as excited as I am. They are gathering items to present to me before I leave. I'm not supposed to know about it, but they are not very good at keeping secrets.

Today they gave me a cell phone. It is a magic phone of unlimited battery life. It will work no matter where I am, how far into the dungeon I go, I will still be in contact. It is not much of a phone, I can only call one person. The village programmed it to call the smartest man in town. The butcher. His nickname is Spoiler, because despite his genius he is really bad at his job. Most of his meats go bad before they are sold.

The phone also lets me keep a journal, which is automatically sent here so my village can watch my efforts. Wherever here ends up being. I don't know how it works, but I have given my word to keep everybody up to date with my progress.

Darlok's cat had a litter of kittens almost three months ago. One of the little guys has taken to following me around. Today I asked him if I could take the kitten with me on my trip. I do not like the idea of subjecting such an innocent animal to the horrors I will undoubtedly face, but it would provide some much needed companionship. From everything I have heard about these dungeons, there will not be many, if any, friendly faces to talk to.

Now, it is time for me to sleep. The hour of my departure rapidly approaches, and I will need to be at the peak of my mental and physical condition.
